into the unknown

a journey through science fiction

Science fiction is more popular than ever. In the wake of the Star Wars and Alien blockbusters, a constant stream of films,
games and books transport us to new galaxies and planets in a distant future. But why has science fiction become so
popular with people of all ages? And how did the genre arise at the end of the 19th century?
Journey into space – and into dreams of a better world – this autumn at Brandts.

Into the Unknown is curated and organised by Barbican International Enterprises and co-produced with Brandts – Museum of Art & Visual Culture, Denmark & Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens. The City of London is the founder and principal funder of the Barbican Centre.
