L.A. Ring
H.A. Brendekilde

Artist Brother

The artists Lauritz Andersen and Hans Andersen met at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in around 1877. To show where they came from – and perhaps to avoid confusion – they both took the names of their home towns, i.e. the village of Ring near Næstved and Brændekilde on the island of Funen.
The exhibition looks at their choice of motifs and existential themes, from political showdowns to idyllic, flowery summer scenes. We tell the story of the close friendship of the two artists and the artistic ideals they shared – and also the ways in which they differed.

The exhibition is being put together in collaboration with Randers
Museum of Art and Nivaagaards Malerisamling.
