Remembering Sam Shaw

We are all familiar with the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe in her white dress, standing above a New York subway grating. That photograph was taken by acclaimed US photographer and film maker Sam Shaw (1912–99). Today, he is famous for motifs from his home city of New York: photographs that made many a front-page image on Life and Look! magazines in the 1950s and 60s. In particular, his portraits of the many Hollywood stars like eg. Marlon Brando, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor and Anthony Quinn are what established him as one of the most significant artists of his time.

The exhibition is created together with the Shaw Family Archives and BuchsteinerArtManagement.de
